Which Class Should Beginners Take First?

Start with SpringSculpt Fundamentals. It's our dedicated beginner class, designed to introduce the springboard apparatus, the vocabulary of our method, and the foundational movement principles that every other class at Ken Pilates builds on.

If Fundamentals isn't on the schedule when you want to come in, a standard SpringSculpt Method class works too. Our instructors are trained to offer modifications, and they will find you in the room and cue you specifically.

What we'd steer beginners away from on day one: HotSprings, Hot Mat Sculpt, and Perreo Pilates, only because the added intensity of heat or pace makes it harder to learn the basics simultaneously. Get one class under your belt first.

What Happens During Class

Classes run 50 minutes. You'll start with a warm-up, move into spring work or mat sequences depending on the format, and close with a cooldown and stretch. Instructors cue verbally and with physical demonstration. You are never expected to mirror someone perfectly on your first try.

Every class has a mix of experience levels. The person next to you may have been coming for two years. They were also a beginner once. No one is watching you.

What to Wear and Bring

Fitted, stretchy clothing works best. Grip socks are recommended for springboard classes (bare feet for mat-only formats). Mats are provided. Bring water.

Arrive five minutes early on your first visit. Introduce yourself to the instructor at the front. Tell them it's your first class. They'll set you up and check in on you during the session.
