First class coming up and not sure what to wear or bring? Here is everything you need to know before you walk in.
Grip socks are required for every class at Ken Pilates. This is not optional. The springboard, mat, and studio floor all require grip socks for safety and hygiene — standard socks or bare feet are not permitted. If you do not have a pair, the studio has them available for purchase. Buy a pair early and leave them in your bag so you never have to think about it again.
Wear what you would wear to any focused workout class. Form-fitting clothes work better than loose clothing in SpringSculpt because the instructor needs to see your alignment and body position to give accurate feedback. Leggings, fitted shorts, a fitted top or sports bra — all standard. Avoid anything with hardware (zippers, buttons, large clasps) that could catch on equipment.
For heated classes — HotSprings, Hot Mat Sculpt, or the Heated Full-Body Stretch — lighter and more minimal is better. The room runs warm and you will sweat. A fitted tank or sports bra and shorts or tight leggings are the practical choice.
Water bottle — bring one. You will need it especially in the heated classes. A small towel is useful for the heated formats. Everything else is provided: springboards, rings, resistance bands, mats, yoga blocks, ankle weights, and dumbbells are all part of the class setup.
For SCULPT AND STRENGTH specifically, you will be using dumbbells ranging from 10 to 30 pounds. The instructor will guide you on weight selection when you check in. Start lighter than you think you need to — the movements are different from standard gym exercises and the form demands change the effective difficulty significantly.
If it is your first time, SpringSculpt Fundamentals is the recommended starting point. It covers the essential movements and spring resistance exercises at a pace that builds real confidence before you join the main classes. The class is designed for beginners and anyone returning after a break.
Arrive a few minutes early to check in and get oriented. Let the instructor know it is your first class — they will keep an eye on your form and offer modifications where needed.
