Heated Pilates in Hoboken, NJ is one of the most-searched fitness terms in the area, and Ken Pilates is the studio that made it part of its core offering. But heat in a Pilates class isn't a gimmick. Here's what it actually does and what to expect when you walk through our doors at 706 Washington Street.
Our studio heats specific class formats to between 85 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmth does a few things:
It allows muscles to move through a fuller range of motion with less resistance. Connective tissue becomes more pliable. Your body warms up faster, which means the first 10 minutes of class aren't spent just trying to get loose.
Heat also increases your cardiovascular demand without adding impact. A heated mat class at 90 degrees asks more of your heart than the same class at room temperature, without adding stress to your joints. That matters for people who want intensity without the pounding.
And yes, you'll sweat. A lot. That's part of the experience.
At Ken Pilates Hoboken, our heated class formats include Hot Mat Sculpt, HotSprings, and ZenSculpt. Each uses the heat differently. Hot Mat Sculpt pairs floor-based mat Pilates with heated air for a deep core and full-body burn. HotSprings brings the heat to our springboard apparatus work. ZenSculpt blends Yoga and Pilates elements in a heated environment, emphasizing mobility alongside strength.
Not every class on our schedule is heated. SpringSculpt Method and SCULPT & STRENGTH run at standard room temperature. Check the schedule and class descriptions to see what's hot on any given day.
A mat is provided. Bring water (more than you think you'll need), a small towel, and grip socks if you have them. Grip socks are recommended for springboard classes. You can also purchase them at the studio.
Wear fitted, moisture-wicking clothing. Loose layers trap heat in uncomfortable ways in a heated room.
Heated Pilates at Ken Pilates is designed to be accessible. That said, if you are pregnant, have cardiovascular conditions, or are sensitive to heat, please consult your doctor before attending a heated class. We also offer non-heated formats throughout the week for movers who prefer a cooler environment.
First time? Book a SpringSculpt Fundamentals or a standard SpringSculpt Method class first to get oriented with the apparatus and our instruction style. Then step into the heat.
