About the role
Studio Captains lead the front-of-house at our New York City studio. You do everything the Studio Crew does, and you own the shift: overseeing the crew, keeping operations running smoothly from open to close, and serving as the point person whenever something needs a decision. If you're a calm, organized leader who takes pride in a well-run studio, this role is for you.
What sets this role apart
- Oversee and support the Studio Crew on every shift, setting the standard for the member experience
- Hold ultimate responsibility for smooth studio operations from open to close
- Act as the on-site point person for any situation that needs a decision or escalation
- Handle emergency and urgent inquiries across email, phone, and text, and keep studio leadership informed
- Make sure every room is reset, every member is cared for, and the full crew checklist is completed each shift
What you'll do
- Check clients in for class across the Heated Room, Tower Room, and Private Room appointments
- Greet and orient first-time clients
- Answer client messages across email and text
- Handle membership requests (new sign-ups, freezes, cancellations, and upgrades) and troubleshoot booking or account issues
- Cancel classes that don't meet the booking minimum and notify affected clients
- Alert clients to schedule changes, including instructor swaps and cancellations
- Field instructor requests: subs, supply needs, and format-specific setup
- Reset each room for the next class, including props, lighting, and temperature per room type
- Disinfect mats, equipment, mirrors, and high-touch surfaces such as door handles, the front desk, lockers, and the water fountain
- Keep locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers tidy, stocked, and checked for lost items
- Vacuum and mop high-traffic areas, dust, and run laundry
- Manage inventory, print on request, and return all equipment and props to their labeled storage
Pay and benefits
- $20 to $25 per hour.
- Complimentary membership at our New York City studio.
- W-2 employee position: paid sick leave, disability and paid family leave coverage, and the other benefits that come with being a true employee rather than a contractor.
What we're looking for
- 1+ year in hospitality, fitness, or retail leadership, with experience guiding a small team
- Available for weekends and holidays, with open availability across the studio's operating hours
- Warm, reliable, and exceptionally organized, with clear written and verbal communication over email, phone, and text
- Confident learning and running our booking and POS system, including Private Room scheduling
- Calm and decisive under pressure, and comfortable being the final point of contact for urgent or emergency issues
- Comfortable with the full range of front-desk and studio-care tasks, and able to stay on your feet through a shift
Preferred qualifications
- Prior experience as a shift lead, key holder, or studio manager
- Familiarity with fitness or wellness booking software
